In-person Partner Meeting in Pärnu, 26.03.2025
On Wednesday, 26 March 2025, the partners of Project COREEL (Collection and Recycling of End-of-Life and Lost Fishing Gear – EE-LV00152) met at Pärnu Yacht Club Marina, Estonia to advance work on cleaner seas and circular use of fishing gear.
Key outcomes:
- Reporting & Budget – EDA budget changes approved; sonar procurement moving forward. LHEI preparing a budget change for vessel rental by end of April.
- Upcoming Events – Baltic Sea Day 28.08.2025: partners will plan joint awareness events.
- Workshops: Latvia to host port workshops in August; Estonia WP2 workshop in September.
- Technical workshop (WP1) planned in May 2025 in EE & LV to test new equipment with stakeholders.
- Communication – Partners discussed reasons behind gear loss and challenges in reporting lost gear. A joint media outreach is planned.

- Fishing effort data & hotspot mapping in EE & LV
- Port and harbour surveys
- Interviews with fishermen
- Testing of new devices & under-water robot
The meeting highlighted strong cooperation across Estonia and Latvia, with focus on practical fieldwork, engaging target groups, and building visibility. Project COREEL is taking concrete steps to protect the Baltic Sea and promote sustainable fishing practices.
