Further development of the ROV cutting tool; 30.07.2026

During April to July 2026, development of the COREEL project’s underwater cutting tool continued, with a focus on improving its mechanical performance, cutting efficiency and reliability when removing derelict fishing gear (DFG) underwater.

The updated design incorporates new flat, straight interchangeable blades together with a redesigned lever mechanism. This mechanism converts the ROV gripper’s linear actuation into synchronized circular motion of both blades, maximizing mechanical advantage while utilizing the full range of the gripper’s linear travel.

A significant part of the development effort was dedicated to reinforcing the thin blade structure to minimize bending under load. Increasing blade rigidity reduces the likelihood of yarns slipping between the blades during operation, resulting in more reliable and efficient cutting performance.
