End-of-life fishing gear pre-processing workshop in Kärdla, Hiiumaa; 25.03.2026

On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, KEST organized an end-of-life fishing gear (EOLFG) pre-processing workshop in Kärdla, Hiiumaa, within the project COREEL Work Package 2 activities. The session focused on the initial handling, assessment, and material segregation of collected fishing gear. Participants conducted a review of the container contents, sorting materials by type to enable further downstream processing, recycling, and potential reuse pathways. A large fishing net was selected, cleaned, and prepared for reuse by the Estonian Defence League as aerial protection netting. Remaining materials were stored on site, pending further processing and logistical coordination planned in June. The prepared net was transported and delivered to the Defence League’s Lääne unit in Haapsalu, in line with prior stakeholder agreements.
