First Field Work Days in Väinameri for Project COREEL, 04.08.2025
The first intensive days of sonar-based searches and vessel operations in Väinameri are complete – with impressive results! Together, EDA and KEST recovered 20 bags (150L each) of abandoned and lost fishing gear, mostly gillnets.
After two days of sorting and cleaning, this amounted to 700 meters of netting. Local fishers from Puise and the helpful harbour master Taavi assisted throughout the process – thank you for your support!
Part of the cleaned material has already been handed over to a plastics processing company to test its suitability as secondary raw material. The remaining nets will be delivered to the Environmental Board for joint decisions on further reuse. Stay tuned – a full overview of the project’s first year and initial results is coming soon.
